Call of Duty - New Developer and Call of Duty Online

Well this was not the news I was expecting today on the changes to the Call of Duty development. Today Activision announced that a third studio will now be involved with the Call of Duty franchise. Sledgehammer Games will be taking their turn at making the next game.

So what will be happening is that the new development cycle will be two years for each game. That means Treyacrh will move to a 2015 release, and Infinity Ward will be 2016. This will be a greater amount of time to give each game a little more polish. I personally thought they should just not release a game every two years. Instead of flooding the market with more Call of Duty games.

Activision CEO Bobby Kotnick stated  to in Activation's quarterly report - "Also in our pipeline for 2014 and the next few years are at least three potentially groundbreaking new free-to-play franchises—Blizzard’s HearthstoneTM: Heroes of WarcraftTM and Heroes of the StormTM, and Activision Publishing’s Call of Duty Online." See that last little information - a wonderful free Call of Duty online. That really is the best part of the whole Call of Duty experience, making new friends and enemies online. It looks like Call of Duty's future is will be in some safe hands with their new studio. So this year expect a new game from a great studio, I don't expect a Modern Warfare clone ( "Cough" Ghosts).
